Family Guy and Star Wars
I don’t think that there’s any doubt that Seth’s Green and McFarlane are Star Wars fans. The amount of detail that went in to “Blue Harvest” could only have been applied by folks who have spent time geeking out about Star Wars.
As good as “Blue Harvest” was, I believe that “Something, Something, Something, Dark Side” is even better. I’m spending some time home sick from work today and decided to fire up my laptop for some entertainment on my deathbed. SSSDS filled the bill perfectly. I actually had to stop watching for a while part way through, I guess I wasn’t feeling up to laughing as hard as I was. The comedy timing and standard Family Guy humour are exactly what you would expect and I enjoyed every minute of it. I suspect I’ll be watching it again very soon to catch the things that I missed.
The full plot (almost too much) is available on Wikipedia so I won’t go in to a lot of detail and spoil it here. The film follows the Empire Strikes Back story line even better than “Blue Harvest” followed it’s source material. The story flows well and, as might be expected of any Family Guy vehicle, is packed full of cultural references from Star Wars as well as many other films, TV shows, and commercials.
Suffice it to say that SSSDS is well worth forking out some cash for and will make a much valued addition to any Family Guy collectors DVD stash.
